David Lewis, Managing Partner at Memetic

After studying law, David began his career in science and technology communications in 2007, and hasn’t looked back. He has worked for small and large agencies, and as an independent consultant, before starting Memetic. His work has taken him from national laboratories and universities, to startups, SMEs, and global business, and across subjects spanning materials science, clean energy, biotechnology, quantum and artificial intelligence. He writes regularly on communications in complex sectors and has contributed articles to publications ranging from PR Week to The Engineer.

David founded Memetic Communications in 2019, initially to create a content agency dedicated to telling the stories of the world’s most complex research and innovation, and eventually evolving it into a full service comms agency for science and deep tech.

    • Starting Memetic and growing it to where it is today

    • Since 2020, being at the centre of the fusion industry’s growth, through our industry research and strategic comms work for the Fusion Industry Association

    • Developing the concept and research for Capgemini’s ‘Engineering Pulse’, the centrepiece of a large multi-sector thought leadership-led marketing and comms campaign

    • Helping EV startup Connected Kerb, in its first years, to change the narrative around on street EV charging and set the foundations for it to become one of the UK’s largest EV charging companies

  • David is interested in how the world works. He loves science, technology, psychology, politics, and economics – giving him a broad knowledge base that helps guide clients on linking their stories to real-world challenges, and engaging with audiences who are interested in solving real problems. He is also fascinated by the art of storytelling and loves getting involved with client narratives and more challenging content – taking great joy in finding little hooks and anecdotes that draw people in, landing on metaphors that make sense of a complex concept, or carefully structuring lots of disparate information into a natural narrative.

Outside of Memetic, David does Parkour most Saturday mornings, regularly performs on the London improv circuit (and, less frequently, standup), and occasionally attends lindy hop socials. He still likes to travel, though doesn’t have so much time for that since starting a business and becoming a father.
